Garmin Pilot: A Comprehensive Suite of Tools for Pilots

Garmin Pilot is an advanced iPad app designed specifically for general aviation and corporate pilots. It offers a wide range of tools for flight planning, charts, interactive maps, weather briefing resources, and navigation capabilities. The app's intuitive interface is similar to Garmin's latest touchscreen avionics, ensuring a seamless transition from preflight to inflight.

Flight Planning

Garmin Pilot provides pilots with powerful pre-flight planning capabilities by offering comprehensive aviation weather information. This includes checking NEXRAD radar, cloud imagery, METARs, TAFs, AIRMETs, SIGMETs, PIREPs, NOTAMs, winds and temperature aloft, TFRs, and lightning data. The app also allows for displaying this data over Garmin's interactive maps, supporting track-up navigation and enabling visualization of the weather along the planned route.

Flight Filing

Filing a flight plan with Garmin Pilot is quick and easy. Users can enter a flight plan and make interactive edits on the map. Pre-loaded forms enable saving and reusing data for frequently flown routes. Once the flight plan is ready, Garmin Pilot simplifies the filing, amending, or closing process via Leidos Flight Service or DUATS.

Inflight Navigation

During the flight, Garmin Pilot provides full en-route navigation capabilities with its moving map. Pilots can also navigate using Garmin's patented panel, which includes a graphical HSI directional display as well as indicators for groundspeed, altitude, and vertical speed. Additionally, the app allows pilots to wirelessly connect to Garmin's GDL 39 3D portable ADS-B Receiver (sold separately) to view real-time weather and traffic information in the U.S.

Electronic Logbook

Garmin Pilot includes a comprehensive electronic logbook that syncs with flyGarmin. The logbook automatically generates entries based on GPS data collected during the flight and tracks currency. It also supports manual entries, endorsements, and generates reports.

Garmin Pilot U.S. Standard offers a range of features including rich interactive maps for track-up navigation, VFR sectional and IFR en-route charts, Jeppesen Terminal Charts (with subscription), animated radar, satellite imagery, METARs, TAFs, AIRMETs, SIGMETs, NOTAMs, AOPA Airport Directory, weight and balance calculations, checklists, flight plan filing via Leidos Flight Services, Garmin's patented navigation panel, terrain and obstacle alerts, smart airspace information, fast waypoint entry, logbook management, and optional features such as Synthetic Vision (SVX), Terrain and Obstacle Alerting, and Garmin SafeTaxi®.

For specific regions like Africa, Asia, Australia, Canada, Europe, and Latin America, Garmin Pilot offers regional offerings with features including worldwide Jeppesen NavData, radar and satellite imagery for specific regions, VFR flight plan filing, IFR autorouting and flight plan filing in Europe, terrain and obstacle alerting, Synthetic Vision (SVX), smart airspace information, logbook management, VFR charts from various agencies (DFS, IGN, NATS), IFR enroute charts from EuroControl, Garmin FliteCharts®, and SafeTaxi® diagrams available on a country-by-country basis.
